Faculty-led Initiatives
The Carl F.H. Henry Center for Theological Understanding offers funding to TEDS faculty-led teams working on key issues of Christian thought and witness. Funding is designed to provide money for team building, consultations, conference planning and execution, and other needs outlined in team proposals.
Proposals may receive a maximum of $50,000. They are due by February 1, and should follow the guidelines stated below. The applicants will be notified whether the proposal has been awarded by April 1.
Successful proposals will include the following:
- A direct connection to the University through faculty sponsorship.
- A commitment to further the mission of the Henry Center.
- A role for Christian leaders from outside the TEDS community (and as appropriate, TEDS doctoral students.)
- Roles, whenever possible, for ethnic minorities, women, and international participants.
- A demonstration of a genuine need for the work proposed.
- A clearly demonstrated commitment to and a plan for carrying out the activities outlined in the proposal.
- A plan for producing resources useful to Christian ministry leaders (clergy and/or lay.)
The following criteria outline the necessary components of special grant proposals:
- One-page précis outlining the project.
- Additional material (up to five pp.) giving details of the project, including a carefully crafted budget with necessary line items and funding schedule.
- Relevant biographical material, including project members who work at TIU, with point people clearly identified.

Henry Center for Theological Understanding Trinity Evangelical Divinity School 2065 Half Day Rd Deerfield IL 60015Award recipients will be determined by the Henry Center Board, led by Director Tom McCall. All applicants will learn whether their proposals were accepted by April 1. In the event that your proposal is accepted, HCTU staff will work closely with you to assure (i) that the Center has broad oversight over all aspects of the project, and (ii) that the faculty member nonetheless assumes full responsibility for the endeavor, recognizing the limited resources of the Center.
If the project has already received an HCTU award and additional funds are being requested, a one-page document indicating specific reasons for additional funding must be submitted at least 30 days prior to the next Henry Center Board meeting.
