The New Image of Man
A Sermon on John 1:19-22 & 1 John 3:2
April 1, 1976 – Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Deerfield, IL)
Modern people are confronted by three images of the ideal human being. TV finds it in the accrual of sexual appeal and material goods. Revolutionaries seek it by full dedication to the overthrow of the world system. Technocratic science looks to genetic manipulation and eugenics. John present Christ as the ideal man, and it is by imitating his obedience to the Father and life in the Spirit that we can have an answer for those who come to question us.

A Few Quotables
“Even to those holding the naturalistic views of an accidental universe and of morality being a dated concept, every human being thinks that he himself is something special.”
“A Christian life unfilled by the Holy Spirit is beneath the dignity of the Apostolic community.”
“Advertising tells us that if only we had this or that cologne, we would have a harem from Deerfield to Evanston.”
