Providence, History, and Evangelical Missions
In a slight departure from the overall format of the Woodbridge Conference, Dr. Erwin Lutzer delivers a homily in honor of Dr. Woodbridge in which he outlines a biblical philosophy of history. Stating that Christians believe history is God’s story and that he uses it for his purposes as in Deuteronomy 8, Dr. Lutzer offers three aspects of a biblical philosophy of history. History must include (1) a reflection upon the past where we learn about God, (2) an application of the lessons from the past to the present, and (3) a connection of the past with the future. God himself and God’s Word connect the past and future, according to Lutzer. Though the future is uncertain to us, God is there.
